I was just doing an interview with an artist and label management the other day when I got hit with that demand: pitch an emerging band you’ve stumbled upon recently. First name that popped into my head? Folded Hand.
Even though they’ve only got two songs out on streaming platforms so far, the quality of their work is chef’s kiss. It’s this beautiful blend of indie, alt, and emotional rock — keeping that raw edge you get from punk bands, but softened into something more melodic and reflective. It’s the kind of sound that punches you in the feelings without being too polished, and I’m here for it.
I also just found out they’re joining IDIOFAME, Cloudsick, and Precursor for a stacked show at Green Auto Body on May 15, and I’m honestly stoked to shoot and connect with them again.
My first experience with Folded Hand was a couple months back at Bully’s Studios, when they teamed up with 2 Litre Superpunk, Bluestem, and Landmark 20 for a punk rock night at the iconic New Westminster venue. I’m tight with the Landmark 20 crew and was invited to shoot their set as they supported 2 Litre Superpunk — who, by the way, are absolute legends. Had a few drinks with them after the show and can confirm: amazing humans. Go stream their stuff if you haven’t already.
Folded Hand’s sound hits this perfect balance of soaring vocal melodies drenched in emotion, layered over guitars that move between dreamy, introspective soundscapes and straight-up thunderous riffs. The drumming is tight, dynamic, and lands right in your chest in the best way. I got to chat with Tyler after their set, and I can confirm — they’re genuinely cool, down-to-earth, and passionate about their craft.
Folded Hand ended up being the gem of the night for me (you can check out the pics here). Their performance was so good I immediately caved and bought their merch. Plus, the back design on their Tender single shirt is killer — even my mom liked it.
At Green Auto Body, alongside Folded Hand, you’ll also be able to catch:
- IDIOFAME — a melodic punk band out of Kelowna who just toured with Calling All Captains
- Cloudsick — pop punk/emo straight from the Lower Mainland, pulling influences from Knuckle Puck to Have Heart
- Precursor — fast punk rock from Vancouver with a killer full-length album out (seriously, check out Thick & Thin)
You definitely don’t want to miss this one. See you at Green Auto Body on May 15 — grab your tickets now!
